從理論上講，銅冷卻壁應該有很長的壽命，但是國內外銅冷卻壁的使用情況并不理想。綜上所述，在使用中發現銅冷卻壁進出水管存在焊縫開裂、熱面磨損、熔損、變形等問題。

　　(1)銅冷卻壁進出水管焊縫裂紋。

　　銅冷卻壁進出水管焊縫開裂的原因是制造質量和制造安裝誤差。由于銅的導熱性好，如果焊接預熱和焊接電流控制不當，只會焊到水管，而銅冷卻壁本體的焊接深度不夠，進出水管與本體沒有可靠地焊接在一起，會導致焊縫脫落。如果安裝時沒有保證爐殼與進出水管之間的間隙，銅冷卻壁會因高爐負荷的波動而熱脹冷縮，進出水管缺乏位移空間，從而使焊縫因反復交變應力而損壞泄漏。

　　(2)銅冷卻壁磨損

　　在爐腹、爐腰和爐體下部，銅冷卻壁冷卻能力強，應形成穩定的渣皮保護。在爐內氣體溫度相同的情況下，鑄鐵冷卻壁的熱表面溫度遠高于銅冷卻壁，容易損壞。而過去厚壁高爐爐腹鑄鐵冷卻壁很少損壞，風口冷卻壁幾乎不燒。但爐腹、爐腰和爐身下部的銅冷卻壁有磨損，風口的鑄鐵冷卻壁也有燒損。因此，需要研究損害機理，以便找到對策。

　　(3)銅冷卻壁的熱變形

　　針對銅冷卻壁的變形，對長度L=3000mm的銅冷卻壁進行了熱態試驗。試驗在無約束狀態(所有工作螺栓未固定)和約束狀態(所有工作螺栓固定)下進行。測試結果表明:

　?、?All deformation of the cold face of the copper stave is positive, which is consistent with the deformation of the copper stave in the actual working condition of the blast furnace, whether in the unconstrained state or in the constrained state;

　?、?The deformation value outside the constraint range of the fixed bolt is larger than that within the constraint range;

　?、?The deformation value caused by one heating is very small, but if it is heated for many times, the deformation value will accumulate. This is due to irreversible plastic deformation caused by temperature stress. According to the accumulated deformation value, the length of the cooling stave is properly controlled, so that the thermal deformation will not affect the normal work of the copper cooling stave during the service life of the first generation furnace.

　　雖然軋制銅冷卻壁可以承受熱流強度的強烈沖擊而不損壞，但如果渣皮經常脫落，溫度變化引起的變形積累對銅冷卻壁是不利的。

　　國內某高爐采用進口連鑄銅冷卻壁。由于設計長度為4m，在爐內扒渣作用下產生熱變形。不僅水管焊縫被拉斷，而且螺栓也從冷卻壁中拔出，導致冷卻壁失效。高爐投產8.5年左右，兩個長冷卻壁換成了四個短冷卻壁。因此，應適當控制銅冷卻壁的長度。
